Your Questions, Answered.

The process of getting a spray tan can be daunting for some. Please check the list of the most common questions that arise with answers to help educate and guide you!

  • The day BEFORE:

    • Make sure to wax or shave any unwanted body hair and exfoliate in the shower with exfoliating gloves (you can find them at any grocery store).

    • Complete any manicure/pedicures, facials or massage/spa treatments at least 24 hours before your spray tan.

    • Refrain from using bar soaps or cream/oil-based body washes.

    The day OF:

    • Try not to raise your body temperature or sweat at least two hours prior to your appointment.

    • Do not apply lotions, deodorants, makeup or fragrance mists/perfumes as this can not only create a barrier but may altar the pH balance of the skin.

    • Pull your hair up and away from your face, and remove all jewelry and accessories from the body.

  • Wear dark, loose fitting clothing. Baggy, long sleeve shirts, sweat pants and open-toed sandals or slip-ons. No undergarments and no jewelry! Your spray tan technician will provide a robe for you to change into.

  • Immediately after:

    • Sun-tini Spray Tans come with a complimentary dusting of finishing powder. This all-natural, homemade powder helps lock in the color development process while providing a clean and dry feeling on the skin. If you prefer to be air-dried, please let us know!

    • Try your best to avoid moisture or water until it’s time to rinse off. No dishes, laundry, yardwork, car washes, or projects that require water.

    • Rinse off in lukewarm (not hot!) water with no soaps or body washes. Use your hands to encourage a gentle rinse of your face, arms, legs, chest, torso, and bottom area until your shower water runs clear. Don’t worry! Your tan has not washed off… only the cosmetic bronzer that is used for a visual reference. Your tan will continue to develop. Pat dry with a towel, do NOT rub!

    • Your final results will take about 24 hours to fully development. Wait to moisturize until then and only use Aveeno or CeraVe lotions.

  • Most spray tans will last between 7-10 days.

Tan longevity is 50% effort of your spray tan artist and 50% effort of how well you follow aftercare instructions. When in doubt, MOISTURIZE and always pat your skin dry, never rub!

When the tan has significantly faded and is ready to be exfoliated, soak in an Epsom salt bath for 20 minutes. This will moisten the skin enough to promote skin cell “sloughing” and using a gentle body wash/cleanser and exfoliating gloves, scrub off the remaining residue of the spray tan. Don’t forget to book your fresh tan afterward!

  • DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is the ingredient in spray tans that makes your skin look darker. It’s a sugar-based ingredient that reacts with the top layer of dead skin cells to create a temporary tan… kind of like how an apple changes color when exposed to air.

It doesn’t dye or damage your skin, and it only affects the outer layer, which is why spray tans gradually fade as your skin naturally sheds!

Spray tans don’t turn orange because of high DHA levels alone. Orange tones are usually caused by an incorrect solution match, skin undertones, pH balance, or poor aftercare.

At Sun-tini Spray Tan, professional solutions are formulated to create natural (NOT orange) looking results. Your service comes with a consultation to identify your color goals and customize your solution based on your skin tones for the best experience and result!

    • For events such as graduations, parties or photoshoots, it is recommended to receive your spray tan at least 48 hours prior to the event.

    • For vacations, tanning the day before (or in some cases, the day OF, particularly if you have selected a Rapid solution!) works great so the tan lasts longer.

    • For brides, bridesmaids or wedding attendees, you will want to tan at least two (2) or three (3) days prior to the big event. *PRO-TIP: Ask about a trial tan three (3) weeks prior to the wedding!

  • Absolutely yes!

Spray tanning has evolved so much - Gone are the days of one-color-fits-all! During the consultation, we can identify your color goals, your skin type and skin routine, and select a service that complements your tanning goal, lifestyle and/or upcoming event. Let us pamper you and glow you up!

  • While our favorite products to use for preserving a spray tan are Aveeno and CeraVe, any lotions that do not contain mineral oil, alcohol, fragrances, or parabens would work well, as these particular ingredients tend to strip away color.

Other good moisturizing options are Hempz, Cetaphil, and Vaseline with Cocoa Butter.

For cleansing, do not use Dove or Dial products, loofahs, oil-based body washes, or highly-fragrant body washes like Bath & Body Works. CeraVe Hydrating or Cetaphil Gentle Skin are good alternatives to preserve your tan.

  • First off… DON’T PANIC. If you accidentally happen across a few water specs or drops, remember that the dot you are seeing is only an interaction with the top layer (cosmetic bronzer) of the tan. You can gently blot the area with a clean, dry cloth or clean makeup brush. If that doesn’t suffice, dampen the cloth or brush and continue to softly blend the dot until it disappears.

If the spot remains, a small amount of self-tanner foam or cream can be applied to a makeup brush and blended in. Overall, it should look blurred and buffed out, not harsh.

For any extreme spots or streaks, please reach out. Touch-ups are always free!

  • Nope. The coloration you might see rub off is from the cosmetic bronzer that is part of your tanning solution (unless you purchased the Sugar-tini Spray Tan which is clear!) but this will come off in the washing machine!

  • Sun-tini Spray Tan services are completely 100% mobile, meaning, we come to YOU.  Getting a spray tan is a luxury and at Sun-tini Spray Tan, we aim for total personalized pampering.

Prior to your appointment, we will send a reminder email with pre-tan instructions for the day before and day-of.

On the day of your appointment, your spray tan technician will arrive to your preferred location with all necessary equipment.  We humbly ask for a small or medium-sized space with good natural lighting to set up equipment including an eight (8) foot tall spray tan tent, a small extractor fan, a spray tan machine and salon bag with accessories such as hairnets, baby wipes, etc. One (1) outlet is required to plug in the machine, but we provide the cables and extension cords.

There will be a five (5) minute consultation to learn about your tan goals. The technician will provide you with a silk robe to change into in the privacy of a bathroom or changing room. You are welcome to change into undergarments (your technician will have disposable bras and underwear if you choose), wear a bathing suit or go nude! Whatever feels most comfortable for you.

Before the session begins, you will be asked to remove the robe so that barrier cream can be applied to sensitive areas that tend to soak up more color such as elbows, knees, heels, fingers and toes. Upon entering the tent, you will be offered foot pads to avoid getting color residue on the bottoms of your feet, a disposable hair net, soft nasal plugs, and barrier cream.

When the session begins, you will enter the spray tanning tent. The technician will lightly mist you with a pH balancing spray to ensure you skin is primed and ready to go. Next, the technician will turn on the spray tanning machine and extraction fan, and you will remain in the tent as they walk you through a series of poses to do as the spray is being applied. The entire process should take no longer than 20 minutes.

After the application is complete, the technician will gently air-dry you with the hose from the machine, and wipe off the excess barrier cream. A blending technique is applied to smooth out the wrists and ankles so there are no harsh lines from wiping off barrier cream.

Finally, our signature finishing powder is lightly dusted all over the body. This velvety powder is perfect to lock in your fresh tan and prevents color transfer to clothing and skin-to-skin contact when you sleep.

Make sure you have loose, dark clothing to change into after the tan application is complete.  Avoid wearing socks, undergarments, bras or closed-toed shoes immediately after the spray tan session to preserve and protect your glow as it develops without smudging.  Your tan will be slightly darker as soon as the spray service is completed but don’t fret… it will lighten up after your first water rinse as the initial application contains a top layer of cosmetic bronzer for aesthetics and as a reference tool for the spray tan technician.

We will take care of cleaning and packing up.  Your technician will provide you with an aftercare card.  Remember to moisturize promptly after the 24 hour mark and enjoy your new glow!
